What exactly did the BBC add?

Radio 1's Dance X strand has quietly gone from one Ibiza broadcast to four. Beyond its long-standing party at 528 Ibiza, the BBC has now locked in three separate club nights across the island's biggest rooms in a single weekend: Friday 31 July sees Dom Dolla take over his own residency at Hï Ibiza with KI/KI, Dean Turnley, Anna Lunoe, Ewan McVicar and Dart on the bill, 23:30 to 06:00. Saturday 1 August moves to Ushuaïa for the ANTS party, with Cloonee, Sosa, Julian Fijma, Emma 2000 and Sarah Story running from 15:00 to 23:00. Sunday 2 August closes it out at UNVRS, where Carl Cox headlines alongside Syreeta, TSHA and Nakadia, 23:30 to 06:00.

Why record it instead of airing live?

Here's the catch: none of it goes out live. Every set across all three nights is recorded on site, then broadcast on Radio 1 in the weeks that follow. That's standard practice for plenty of festival and club coverage, but it changes what these nights actually are. They're not radio events in the traditional sense, a DJ playing to an audience tuning in as it happens; they're content shoots that carry Radio 1's branding, timed to the island's peak season and slotted into three of Ibiza's most recognisable venues.

What does this say about Radio 1's role on the island?

UNVRS bills itself as "the world's first superclub," built around luxury and arena-scale production, and it's not alone in leaning on Radio 1's name to sell a night out. Ushuaïa's ANTS and Hï's Dom Dolla residency are both established commercial franchises with their own ticketing operations; adding "Radio 1 Dance X" to the marquee doesn't change who's selling the tickets, it adds a public broadcaster's stamp to the poster. A public-service station lending its cultural weight to three superclub bookings in one weekend, purely for delayed broadcast, is worth naming for what it is: less a live radio residency, more a co-branding exercise with the venues that already dominate Ibiza's commercial circuit.

None of it airs live. That's the part worth sitting with.
