Who's behind the new 'Madan'?
Caiiro is one of the leading names coming out of South Africa's Afro House and Afro Tech scene, built on a catalogue that leans on deep, spiritual rhythms rather than pop hooks. For his latest project he went back to a song most of the house world already knows by feel, if not always by name: Salif Keita's 'Madan'. Keita, the Malian singer long nicknamed the Golden Voice of Africa, recorded 'Madan' as part of a catalogue that has shaped West African popular music for five decades. Caiiro's version keeps Keita's vocal at the centre and rebuilds everything else around it.
What did Caiiro actually change?
The remix leans on deep percussion and atmospheric melodies stacked under a club-oriented rhythm, the production signature that's made Caiiro a go-to name on Afro House lineups well beyond South Africa. The release, out October 9 via Universal Music South Africa and Decca Records France, ships in two versions: a 7:24 Extended Mix built for the booth and a 3:44 Radio Edit for everything else.
Why are the DJs already on board?
MoBlack, Shimza, Da Capo, Darque and Major League DJz all backed the track ahead of its release, the kind of lineup that tells you where a record is headed before it even charts. That said, Caiiro isn't the first to put 'Madan' through an Afro House filter. Dj Dark and the pairing eSQUIRE vs Igor Blaska have both reworked the song before him. What separates this one is less the idea than the execution: Caiiro's catalogue has a track record of treating vocal-led source material with restraint rather than chopping it into a hook-loop, and that's the bet these co-signs are making.
'Madan' has outlived every genre it's passed through, and Caiiro's version is betting the next one is Afro House.
