Carl Cox has run Ibiza's Sunday nights for the better part of four decades. David Guetta has spent two of those decades turning big-room dance music into a global export. On July 26, 2026, the two shared a booth for the first time in either of their careers, an all-night-long set at UNVRS that closed out a night built around Cox's birthday.

What actually happened at UNVRS?

Cox is the Sunday resident at UNVRS, the 10,000-capacity “hyperclub” The Night League opened in 2025 on the site of the old Privilege/KU building. His summer season runs from June 21 to October 4, and rather than working the booth alone every week, he built the residency around rotating guest pairings: Louie Vega joins him for a disco-focused night on September 13. July 26 was Guetta's turn, and it doubled as a birthday session ahead of Cox's 64th on July 29.

Why had this never happened before?

Both men have been fixtures of Ibiza's DJ economy for years, Cox as the closest thing techno and house have to an elder statesman, Guetta as one of the most streamed and highest-grossing DJs alive, but their paths rarely crossed on a shared lineup, let alone a shared pair of decks. Guetta has his own residency at UNVRS, built around the peak-time, festival-size productions that made him a global name. Cox's set is closer to a marathon: deep, rolling, built to run for hours rather than climax in twenty minutes. Pairing them was never obvious, which is exactly why both men leaned on the novelty in the run-up. Guetta called it a chance to play “something completely different and unexpected” next to the hits his own crowd shows up for.

What does this mean for Ibiza's summer?

UNVRS built its opening two seasons on spectacle: a 6,500-square-metre room designed to reconfigure nightly, and a booking strategy that increasingly treats the guest pairing as the format, not the exception. A Cox/Guetta b2b sits at the extreme end of that strategy, pairing a lineage-first techno and house legend with the biggest EDM name still touring, in the same club, on the same night. Whether or not it makes for a coherent musical statement, it is a statement about what UNVRS is willing to sell during a season when it needs to keep filling a room the size of an arena every Sunday.
