What exactly is [UNVRS], and why does it divide the underground?

When Privilege closed in San Rafael, the warehouse that once held the Guinness World Record as the world's largest nightclub, nobody expected what came next. The Night League, the team behind Ushuaia and Hi Ibiza, rebuilt the site as a 20,000-capacity "hyperclub": retractable stages, programmable LED grids across 6,500 square metres, a 25-metre ceiling, and a free shuttle bus from three points on the island. [UNVRS] opened in May 2025 and walked straight into the DJ Mag Top 100 at number one, the first new club to do that in over two decades.

The response from parts of the underground was sharp. Entry from 50 to 100 euros, opulent interiors, a luxury positioning that sat uneasily against Ibiza's counterculture heritage. "Another club for rich people where musical culture won't matter," one comment read; online discussion ran hot on pricing. Yet the same venue books queer nights, underground collectives and serious house and techno artists. That contradiction is the whole story.

What does Carl Cox's return actually mean?

For 15 years, Carl Cox ran Sundays at Space Ibiza. After Space closed in 2016, one of the most mourned club closures in recent memory, he played the island as a guest but never committed to a residency again. When he chose [UNVRS] in 2025, and chose to return for 2026, it changed what the venue means. His name is too specific to dilute accidentally.

"Last season was unforgettable. The energy, the atmosphere, the people. You made it incredible, and I've been waiting to do it all again ever since."

What is the 2026 season actually bringing?

Sixteen Sundays, June 21 through October 4. Opening night is Carl Cox all-night, with WhoMadeWho and Ben Sterling joining. Then the B2Bs:

  • June 28: Cox B2B WhoMadeWho
  • July 12: Cox B2B Chris Stussy
  • July 26: Cox B2B David Guetta (House Night)
  • August 30: Cox B2B Joseph Capriati
  • September 13: One-off disco night: Cox, Louie Vega, DJ Tennis, Dimitri From Paris
  • September 27: Cox B2B Nicole Moudaber
  • October 4: All Night Long closing

The wider season bill includes Richie Hawtin, Honey Dijon and The Martinez Brothers. The Chris Stussy, Capriati and Moudaber dates are serious calls. The July 26 Guetta B2B is the one that requires an explanation. It is billed as a "House Night," which is an acknowledgment that the two artists don't naturally share a floor. Whether that framing holds once the lights come up is the argument the underground is having right now.
