Ten years ago, Dekmantel's Amsterdam team took a gamble that ran against every festival-growth instinct: instead of scaling the flagship up, they shrank it down and moved it to a stretch of Adriatic coast in Tisno, Croatia. A decade on, Dekmantel Selectors hasn't grown into a mega-fest. It's still capped, still built around the same open-air club, and it's exactly why the scene still shows up.
What actually makes this festival different?
The format is the story. Days run as low-key coastline sessions and boat parties around The Garden resort; when the sun drops, everyone moves to Barbarellas, the open-air club that's become the festival's real signature. That day-to-night structure, small enough that you keep running into the same faces, is the blueprint half the newer boutique festivals in Europe have tried to copy since. Selectors got there first and never diluted it by expanding capacity to chase it.
The 2026 lineup is the clearest evidence of what a decade of trust buys a promoter. It's not a headliner-and-filler bill, it's a set of names that only make sense next to each other if you actually know the records: Ron Trent, the Chicago deep house originator behind "Altered States," on the same five days as Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann and the endlessly beloved Mr Scruff. Add Antal, Efdemin, Benji B and Deetron, then a run of the sharpest younger names in club music right now: Ploy, CCL, Simo Cell, Peverelist, Introspekt, mad miran, Jesse G and BADSISTA.
Why do the back-to-back sets matter more here than elsewhere?
Selectors has always leaned hard on b2b pairings as a curatorial statement, not a gimmick to pad a poster. This year: Hunee with Optimo (Espacio), Kia with Verraco, Binh with Vladimir Ivkovic. Those aren't random collisions, they're pairings that only a promoter who's spent ten years reading a specific crowd would even attempt, let alone trust to fill a dancefloor at 4am on an island.
"A celebration of sun, music and togetherness," is how the festival still describes itself, ten years and thousands of ticket-holders in.
Why it matters
At a moment when festival economics are pushing most European events toward bigger capacities, more sponsors and safer headline bookings, Dekmantel Selectors staying small for ten straight years is itself a data point: a deep, specialist lineup and a capped crowd can still sell out on reputation alone.
What we think
The fact that Ron Trent, Marcel Dettmann and Mr Scruff can share a bill without it reading as a mismatched money-grab tells you everything about how tightly curated this festival still is. Most boutique events that hit ten years either fold or bloat. Selectors did neither, and that's the actual anniversary story, not the lineup PDF.
