What's actually inside DevOcean Modular?
Ocean Swift Synthesis built DevOcean Modular as a standalone software modular environment (with a VST3/AU bridge for DAWs) carrying more than 145 modules: nine filter families (Moog-style ladders, state-variable, formant, comb), 13 effects, six dedicated dynamics processors (compression, de-essing, transient shaping), and full synthesis engines for wavetable, FM, additive, supersaw and granular sound. It's a genuinely deep rack, built on a from-scratch C++ DSP core rather than a wrapper around stock plugin building blocks, and it runs on Windows 10/11 and Apple Silicon Macs (no Intel Mac support), up to 96kHz with 16 voices.
Can you really patch a synth to the stock market?
The part that separates DevOcean Modular from yet another virtual Eurorack is its modulation sources. Alongside the usual LFOs and envelopes, it ships a shortwave radio oscillator, a live market data module, and a game controller mapping rig, all wired straight into the patch like any other signal. That means a filter cutoff can ride a stock ticker's swings, or a drone can be seeded by the noise floor of a shortwave frequency, turning ambient information most producers never touch into raw modulation material. For deep-tech and organic-house sound designers chasing textures that don't come from a preset browser, that's the actual news here, more than any interface flourish.
"Cables pulse with the sound moving through them and shift color between mono and poly as you wire," reads Ocean Swift's own description of the patching canvas.
What does the AI assistant actually do, and what's the catch?
DevOcean Modular also ships MaYa, an in-app AI agent built on Anthropic's Claude that can add and wire modules, debug a patch that won't behave, tag and tidy a session, and answer synthesis questions without sending the user hunting through a manual. It's a genuine workflow feature for a rack this dense, though it's worth remembering it's an assistant for building patches, not a substitute for the ear doing the actual sound design.
