Afro house has spent years proving itself at home: Johannesburg warehouses, Lagos rooftops, the Cape Town boat parties. What it has lacked, at the biggest European festivals, is real estate it controls rather than a guest slot on someone else's stage. Shimza just got handed a full day of it.

On October 24, 2026, DGTL's Amsterdam Dance Event programme turns its NDSM Warehouse stage over entirely to a curator rather than a booker, running 14:00 to 22:30 as what the festival itself calls a handpicked selection shaping the global Afro house movement. That's not a headline slot bolted onto a mixed bill. It's the whole day, and Shimza decides who plays it.

What's actually on the lineup?

Shimza built a bill that stretches the genre's definition rather than flattering one corner of it: Âme & Desiree and Bedouin bring the tech-house and Middle Eastern-tinged crossover crowd that already fills rooms across Europe, while Stoffela, Alex Wann, Amémé, Jamiie & Meera and Nova:II (the duo of Philou Louzolo and Cincity) represent the newer wave actually making the Afro house records right now. DGTL's own copy puts it plainly: the day runs from deep, hypnotic grooves and powerful percussion to uplifting melodies and immersive atmospheres, a spread, not a single sound.

"Curated by one of South Africa's most influential electronic artists, the event brings together a handpicked selection of artists shaping the global Afro house movement."

Why does the timing matter?

Amsterdam Dance Event turns 30 in 2026, running October 21-25 across the city. Its last full edition pulled roughly 600,000 visitors, close to 3,500 artists and more than 1,200 events across upwards of 300 venues, per ADE's own figures. That's the stage ADE chose to put an Afro house curator in charge of for its anniversary week, not a side room or a 2am graveyard slot. Booking decisions for a milestone edition get made early and get scrutinized; handing a full day to Shimza is ADE saying where it thinks the genre sits now, not where it sat five years ago when Afro house was still mostly a Black Coffee and Caiiro story on European lineups.

Is this a one-off or a pattern?

Shimza has spent the past two years building exactly this kind of institutional foothold rather than chasing single bookings: a Pacha Ibiza residency, a Coachella debut, a rising DJ Mag Top 100 placing. A full curated day at one of the world's biggest club-music festivals is the next rung, and it's the kind of booking other festivals copy once it works.
