What's actually unusual about this bill?
Walk down the names and you get two festivals stapled together. On one side: DJ Harvey, Chez Damier, Egyptian Lover, Soichi Terada, Prosumer, Benji B, Tama Sumo and Lakuti, the people who built house, disco and early rave culture across Chicago, New York, Detroit and London, several with careers stretching back to the 1980s. On the other: Four Tet, Blawan, HAAi, Verraco and Introspekt, artists who built their own followings in the 2010s and 2020s on techno, breaks and leftfield club music. GALA Festival is putting them on the same three-day bill, in a public park in Peckham, not a purpose-built arena or a superclub residency.
That's the real story in GALA's 2027 announcement, not the fact that an announcement happened. Four Tet headlining a UK festival is not news on its own. Four Tet making his first-ever appearance at GALA, on a bill that also carries DJ Harvey's name and a Sunday slot built around disco and house roots, is a specific editorial choice about what kind of festival GALA wants to be.
Why book 1980s pioneers next to 2020s techno names?
GALA has given the 2027 edition a theme: "The House We Keep," pitched explicitly around house music's origins in Chicago and New York and its journey into UK rave culture. That's not incidental marketing copy, it's the booking logic. DJ Harvey gets his own takeover of Peckham Rye Park's Pleasure Dome stage ("DJ Harvey & Friends"), while Chicago's Chez Damier, Japan's Soichi Terada and Detroit techno figure Ryan Elliott sit on a Sunday the festival is building around deeper, disco-leaning sets. Friday and Saturday carry the newer names: Shy FX, Blawan, HAAi, Skin On Skin, Peach.
The split matters because most UK festivals, when they reach for a cross-generational hook, use it for nostalgia: a legacy headliner bolted onto an otherwise contemporary bill as ticket-sale insurance. GALA is instead building its pitch to the industry (Resident Advisor, Deviation, HVYWGHT and ADONIS all run stage takeovers) around genuine lineage: book the people the younger artists cite as influences, and let them share a weekend rather than a nostalgia slot.
What's still missing from this lineup?
GALA hasn't released set times, a full day-by-day split beyond the themed Friday, Saturday and Sunday structure, or ticket prices. Pre-registration is open now, with the festival promising further artists and the complete programme in early 2027, a few months ahead of the May weekend.
