What Does John Summit Say Happened?

John Summit says Pete Tong asked him to hand over his session files and stems for a joint orchestral remix of Everything But The Girl's "Missing," while Tong worked on new vocals with Julia and Mark Ralph and said he had already recreated parts of the original. Summit says he agreed, and the two even discussed performing the orchestral version live with Summit's own orchestra at Tofte Manor. According to Summit, none of that materialized on Tong's end, so he finished the orchestral version alone.

"Hey @petetong thanks for promising to release my missing remix with u (while doing nothing in terms of production) then jacking my remix to release with Franky Rizardo. Real class act you are.", John Summit, on X

Why Did Franky Rizardo Pull Out?

Rizardo's own version of "Missing," made separately with Tong, had been scheduled for release on July 17. After Summit's post went public, Rizardo withdrew it, saying that "after learning more today about the background surrounding this release, I've come to the conclusion that it no longer feels right for me to be part of it." He framed the move as staying out of the dispute rather than taking a side, and said the track remains something he can still play in his own DJ sets even if it never comes out.

What Happens to Pete Tong's Version Now?

As of publication, Tong has not addressed Summit's claims publicly. Summit says his own orchestral version of the remix is finished and set to premiere in his live sets this weekend, meaning two competing orchestral takes on the same 1994 house classic now exist: one released nowhere, and one pulled just before release, both without a word yet from the man who allegedly set the whole thing in motion.
