What actually happened inside Karmat Music?
Berlin's commercial register doesn't do drama, it does paperwork. But the filing dated August 17, 2026, confirmed what two years of breakup rumors couldn't: Tale Of Us is finished as a working partnership. According to documents reviewed by We Rave You and CULTR, shareholders of Karmat Music GmbH, the German company behind Afterlife Recordings, voted on August 6, 2026 to remove Carmine Conte, half of Tale Of Us as MRAK, as managing director with immediate effect. Conte didn't show up to defend himself. No lawyer, no counter-motion, nothing.
Matteo Milleri, who performs as Anyma, stays on as managing director. The ownership split, untouched by the vote, is telling: Milleri holds 30%, Conte holds 30%, Afterlife co-founder Aurelia Ortiz holds 30%, and the Italian firm SIPAL S.p.A. holds the remaining 10%. Conte keeps his stake. He just lost the authority to run the company he helped build.
What is Conte actually accused of?
Karmat's filings allege Conte shared confidential company documents with SIPAL during an ongoing legal dispute between Karmat and the Italian firm, and that a lawyer he had instructed accepted SIPAL's claim on Karmat's behalf, a move that contributed to a court ruling against Karmat in May 2026. That's a serious accusation inside any company: a managing director allegedly helping the other side of a lawsuit win. Neither Conte nor Milleri has said a public word about any of it.
Conte was absent from the vote that ended his authority over the label he co-founded, and sent no legal representation.
Is Tale Of Us officially over?
Nobody involved has said the words "Tale Of Us is over." But look at the trail: the duo's last show together was in Tulum in January 2025. Afterlife's last release under the Tale Of Us banner was Kevin de Vries's "Born Like That," back in 2024. Milleri launched his own imprint, AEDEN Records, in August 2026, the same month Conte's removal was filed. Conte's long-teased solo album, "We Don't Follow," now looks unlikely to come out on Afterlife at all. The corporate filing didn't create the split. It just made it official.
