What actually changes for a DJ running Phase?
Until now, Phase's timecode control worked over HID mode, but it needed a physical connection running from the receiver back to the CDJs or mixer. Rekordbox 7.2.16 adds a wireless option inside DVS mode: select WIRELESS once the Phase unit is paired over HID, and the cable comes out of the booth entirely. For scratch DJs who already ditched vinyl for Phase's paddle controllers, this is the step that was missing: no more taping down a USB run across the table, no more one bad connector killing your set mid-mix.
It is a small line in a changelog with a real effect on how a booth gets built. Mobile DJs and bar residents who move gear in and out every night are the ones who will notice first.
Why does folding Beatsource into Beatport matter?
Beatsource is gone from rekordbox. Its catalog and features now live inside Beatport, the direct result of Beatport's acquisition of the platform. Practically: anyone who was still routing streaming or downloads through Beatsource inside rekordbox gets redirected to Beatport, full stop. It is the clearest sign yet that Beatport intends to run one DJ-facing storefront rather than two competing ones under the same roof, and it puts more of the working DJ's streaming spend under a single company's control.
What else shipped in 7.2.16?
The update brings official compatibility with two new AlphaTheta players: the CDJ-1500X, a lighter, more compact multi-player aimed at bars and smaller venues, and the XDJ-AN, a two-channel all-in-one system pitched between home controllers and a full CDJ booth. AI vocal position detection, a feature rekordbox had previously reserved for its higher subscription tiers, is now included on every plan at no extra cost. Rekordbox also patches a crash that was hitting DJs trying to log into Spotify from inside the software, alongside smaller fixes to Spotify library browsing and hot cue sorting.
Cutting the last cable on a DVS rig sounds minor until it is your cable, on your night, coming loose mid-set.
