What exactly is Inner Visions?

Sixteen Zimbabwean DJs and producers are on one compilation together, a rarity in a scene that usually exports its talent one signing at a time. Inner Visions, curated by Johannesburg-based Zimbabwean DJ and producer Dr Feel (Zviratidzo Msipha), is set for release in November 2026 through South African house label Mansa Musa Records. "Inner Visions is about looking inward before you look outward," Dr Feel told CITE Zimbabwe. "This is Zimbabwean Afro House, told by the people making it right now, for anyone in the world who wants to listen."

Why does a Zimbabwe-only lineup matter right now?

Afro House is, functionally, South Africa's genre in the eyes of the wider dance world: Black Coffee, Shimza, Culoe De Song and a run of South African labels built its international profile and its market. Zimbabwean producers have mostly slotted into that machine individually, moving to Johannesburg, signing to South African imprints, getting absorbed into South African bills. Dr Feel did exactly that himself. Inner Visions flips the order: instead of another Zimbabwean artist breaking through a South African label as a solo name, it's the label putting Zimbabwe's scene forward as a scene, sixteen names deep, under one Zimbabwean banner.

Who's actually on the record?

Nitefreak is the name most of the house world will recognise: signed to Deep Root Records, played by Diplo, Black Coffee and Shimza, and the producer behind a 2021 remix of "Premier Gaou" with Francis Mercier that went gold in France. Dr Chaii and DJ Stavo already work the wider African circuit; Ryan Synth, MIčI, Reverb, TAPIWA and Simbai sit further up the emerging end, alongside Tashinga, Shona (SA), PA NGU, Afro Wav, Takue SBT, Josh Major, Daphfinee and Taarof Adder. The spread, veteran to newcomer, is the point: Mansa Musa is presenting range, not a single breakout story.
