France's electronic music runs on one unbroken lineage: Pierre Schaeffer spliced train recordings into music on state radio in 1948, the studio he built trained Jean-Michel Jarre, and by the 1990s the same country was exporting Laurent Garnier's techno and Daft Punk's French Touch to the rest of the world.
