What actually happened on the Amnesia terrace?
On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Joseph Capriati and Richie Hawtin played a back to back on the Terrace at Amnesia Ibiza, with Toman, Paramida and Vanee filling out the rest of the night; in the Club Room, Adiel b2b Alarico, Yanamaste and Nuke held the smaller floor. The date sat inside Capriati's Metamorfosi residency, the concept he originally built at Amnesia before moving it elsewhere for a season and bringing it home this year as the flagship booking of the club's 50th anniversary: 14 Tuesdays, June 30 through September 29, with guest names across the run including Ben Klock, Maceo Plex, Seth Troxler, Dubfire and Anfisa Letyago.
Amnesia rebuilt the Terrace booth for this run specifically: lower, and pushed further onto the dancefloor, closing the physical gap between the DJs and the crowd. Butterfly-costumed performers moved through crimson and violet light, a production nod to the "metamorphosis" concept that stays in the background instead of competing with the music.
Why put these two on the same decks?
Hawtin built his career on subtraction: Plastikman, the F.U.S.E. project, decades of minimal techno engineered to strip a track down to whatever actually moves a floor. Capriati came up through the harder end of Neapolitan and Berlin techno before becoming one of the biggest draws on Ibiza's tech-house circuit, the sound that now fills nearly every terrace on the island from May to October. Put those two on one mixer and the set gets built by negotiation, not by whoever brought the bigger drop. Metamorfosi's whole premise, in Capriati's own words, is that clubbing needs more attention paid to the music itself.

Is the tech-house backlash actually real?
Hawtin has been saying some version of this for years. In a 2023 Billboard interview, he called techno's rapid growth "a huge, jumbled up, confusing development," warning that bigger crowds tend to flatten a scene built by "diverse, strange, experimentally minded people" into one repeatable format. That critique lands squarely on Ibiza's current default setting: over a decade of vocal-chop, snare-roll tech-house engineered for one specific peak-time reaction, playing on repeat across the island's biggest terraces every night of the season. One b2b doesn't undo that economics, and Amnesia itself runs plenty of nights built on exactly that format; Metamorfosi's own bill leans on names, like Cloonee and Mau P, who work well inside it. But a night that gets Ibiza's forums and group chats arguing about musicality instead of just posting a clip of the drop is, on this island, a genuinely rare outcome, and it's the argument Capriati built Metamorfosi to make in the first place.

The residency closes on September 29, 2026, the final date of Amnesia's 50th anniversary run. Whether the club keeps betting on this format past its anniversary season, or lets it fold back into the standard tech-house rotation once the milestone year ends, is the open question for anyone booking Ibiza's 2027 summer.
