Chris Stussy is now Chris Stassy. On August 18, 2026, the Dutch DJ and producer, real name Niels Christian Steenbergen, posted a photo of himself standing in front of a billboard reading: "One letter, same mind. Same music, same vibe. Thank 'U' for everything, 'A' new chapter in my life." Within a day, every account tied to him, Instagram, Spotify, TikTok, X, YouTube, had swapped the U for an A. Chris Stussy built the name over 16 years, from Amsterdam warehouse sets to a 2023 DJ Mag cover story, so a rebrand this late in a career is rare, and rarer still with zero explanation attached.

Why did he do it?

He hasn't said, and that's the whole story. Fans went digging in the comments and landed on the obvious theory: friction with Stussy, the American streetwear label that shares almost the exact spelling. Nobody, not Stassy, not the clothing brand, has confirmed or denied it, so treat it as scene speculation, not fact. Asked directly why he didn't just settle for something closer to the original, like "Chris Stuss," he said those options weren't "necessarily... possible", a non-answer that has only fed the guessing game. What he has confirmed: the substance underneath the spelling stays put.

"Over the past 16 years, this has grown into so much more than a name. It's the shows, the music, and most importantly, the community that has grown around it. That's what I'm most grateful for, and that's all still here."

His label Up The Stuss and his USS party series keep their original names untouched, a deliberate line drawn between the artist brand and the business he's built around it.

What comes next?

CHRIS STASSY's first release under the new name, "U Know Me" featuring Marz Fay, lands August 28 on his own CSS imprint, the same day he's back on the bill at Creamfields. He teased it with a street stunt: a video of himself holding a cardboard sign reading "Do you know me?", trading free guestlist for anyone who'd talk to him. The rollout also carries his N.A.M.E. series, a community-focused free party concept, through Birmingham on August 22 and Amsterdam on August 27, before his first live outing under the new name this weekend at Pukkelpop in Belgium, with Circoloco, Music On and Metamorfosi booked in Ibiza after that.
