What does rekordbox 7.2.18 actually change on the hardware?
rekordbox 7.2.18, released August 18, 2026, adds a genuinely new hook: DJs can now sign into their own Spotify account directly from a connected CDJ, XDJ or All-in-One DJ system, using the rekordbox login flow built into the deck. AlphaTheta's release notes are specific about the catch: the hardware's firmware has to be updated to its latest version before the login screen even shows up. Once you're signed in, your Spotify library becomes searchable and browsable straight from EXPORT mode on the unit, the same screen you'd use to dig through a USB-loaded rekordbox collection.
So can you actually play a Spotify track off a CDJ now?
No. AlphaTheta says so in plain language in the same release notes that announce the feature: Spotify tracks cannot be loaded or played on CDJ/XDJ or All-in-One DJ systems via USB EXPORT or LINK EXPORT. A DJ can scroll a client's Spotify playlist on a CDJ screen mid set and still has to reach for a USB stick, a laptop over LINK, or another app entirely to actually cue and play any of it.

Why ship a login screen that doesn't unlock playback?
AlphaTheta isn't hiding the limitation, it's stated in the same notes as the feature. The likely reason is unglamorous: Spotify's licensing has never let a third party app export a playable, DRM-free file, and CDJ/XDJ hardware only plays files off USB or LINK, never a live stream. Sign-in without playback reads like plumbing laid ahead of whatever comes next, not a finished workflow. It lands two point releases after 7.2.16 added CDJ-1500X and XDJ-AN compatibility on July 9 and 7.2.17 tightened LINK EXPORT security on July 30, a version by version drip that so far has changed almost nothing about what a working DJ can actually cue up on the decks.
