How big did Untold get in 2026?
Untold's 11th edition ran August 6 to 9 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, anchored at Cluj Arena and spreading across nine stages through the city's Central Park. Rave Jungle's day-by-day recaps put the crowd at more than 120,000 on opening day, 130,000 on day two, 135,000 on day three and another 120,000 on the closing night, adding up to more than 500,000 festivalgoers across the four days, a total corroborated by Pollstar's trade coverage. That scale keeps Untold inside DJ Mag's top three festivals in the world, a ranking it has now held for a third straight year, and it dwarfs the roughly 240,000 who showed up at its 2015 debut.
Why does the Galaxy Stage matter more than the crowd count?
The mainstage did the heavy lifting for ticket sales: Sting opened the festival, The Chainsmokers marked ten years of "Closer," Lewis Capaldi and Martin Garrix each got their own singalong moment, and Afrojack and R3HAB closed the whole thing back to back. But tucked into Central Park, Galaxy ran its own program of house and techno all four nights. Carl Cox headlined the opening night inside the festival's only indoor stage. Solomun and Joseph Capriati took it over on day three. Jamie Jones, MRAK and Sara Landry closed it on the final night. None of that is new for Untold, Galaxy has run a serious underground bill since at least 2019, but doing it at this scale, inside a festival this pop-and-EDM-heavy, is not something most European festivals of Untold's size even attempt.
Galaxy is Untold's "underground temple," Rave Jungle wrote after Carl Cox's opening-night set, the kind of line usually reserved for clubs, not a stage built inside a 500,000-person festival.
Is Romania becoming a real house and techno destination?
Heads already knew Romania mattered before Untold got this big. Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu and [a:rpia:r] built the "Rominimal" sound into a genuine European export, and the country's Sunwaves festival on the Black Sea has run a cult minimal and deep house lineup for close to two decades. What Untold adds is sheer scale: a festival that can put Carl Cox and Solomun on a stage next to Sting and Flo Rida, then sell out its next edition's first 30,000 passes in 24 hours. Untold 2027, the "STAR Edition," runs August 5 to 8, with passes starting at 109 euros plus fees.
