Independent developer TinyGreg has released Model-TG, free custom firmware that bolts a seventh sampler machine onto Elektron's Model:Cycles groovebox, barely two weeks after Elektron banned the sharing of firmware mods on its own Elektronauts forum.
Monomodule is a free, open source plugin that loads the Elektron Monomachine's own OS 1.32B firmware and runs all 22 original sound engines instruction for instruction, per Sonic State.
Elektron has banned members of its own Elektronauts forum from sharing firmware hacks, tools or mod instructions, blaming a surge in AI-assisted firmware modding that it says risks bricking gear and undermining its IP.
A free, no-install browser emulator at machinedrum-study.pages.dev recreates Elektron's discontinued Machinedrum drum machine, and it needs no ROM files because it is a from-scratch sound simulation, not an extraction of Elektron's code.
A Berlin developer's fork of the open-source Gearmulator project turns Elektron's discontinued Monomachine and Machinedrum into free VST3 plugins, but the emulator only runs once you feed it ROM files dumped from hardware you actually own.
Elektron's Tonverk OS 1.4 firmware adds full Overbridge multi-channel USB streaming, letting all 16 tracks hit a DAW as individual stems for the first time since the sampler launched.
Elektron's free OS 1.55 brings a Euclidean sequencer, a Control All mode and loopable pattern pages to the Analog Four and Analog Keys, the first substantial update since Bonnier Capital bought the Gothenburg synth maker in April.
Elektron released OS 1.55 for the Analog Four and Analog Keys on June 10, a free update that adds two Euclidean generators, page looping and the Digitakt-style 'Control All' to hardware that first shipped in 2012.
Elektron's Outbox 8 is a USB breakout box that splits any Overbridge instrument into eight DC-coupled balanced outs you assign per track, for a likely 249 to 299 euros this summer.
