Jakarta Has a Serious House and Techno Scene. It's Hiding in Office Towers and Mall Basements.

Why is Jakarta's best club on the 25th floor of an office tower?

Vault Jakarta opened on July 18, 2025, and its address alone tells you something about how this city hides its scene: the 25th floor of Multivision Tower, on Jalan Kuningan Mulia in the Kuningan business district. No street-level queue, no sign screaming for attention from the sidewalk, just an elevator to a room built with a VOID sound system, two floors, two main bars and a run of semi-private booths.

Vault's own pitch is that it's importing "Bali's underground spirit" into the capital, and the weekly menu backs that up on at least one night: Wednesday is HERTZ, house, tech house, bass house and techno running past 3am. The rest of the week hedges harder: Thursday's SAUCE turns to UK garage, R&B, baile funk and dancehall, Friday's ORANGE SODA is hip-hop and R&B, Saturday's CHEDDAR is amapiano and afrobeats. That spread is the honest picture of a room still finding its footing between two audiences: expats and locals who want a big night out, and the smaller crowd that actually came for the four-to-the-floor.

What's actually playing at Le Cirque and Zodiac?

Ten minutes away in the Sudirman Central Business District, Le Cirque SCBD takes the opposite bet. Built by SwillFam Group inside the Fairgrounds SCBD complex and capped at 250 people, it plays deep house, tech house, disco and minimal Wednesday through Saturday from 10pm, no genre-hopping, no hip-hop night to fall back on. The room itself, red megaphone speakers, a faceted ceiling, a black-and-white checkerboard floor, was built around a stated philosophy of "immersion over excess", a pointed contrast to SCBD's bottle-service reputation. It's also already hosted Mixmag Lab Jakarta's debut, the kind of booking that puts a room on an international radar rather than just a local one.

Then there's Zodiac, on Jalan Senopati Raya in Kebayoran Baru: smaller again, no big production, and the one locals consistently point to for having the best DJ bookings and programming in the city. Its lane is techno, disco, afrobeats and leftfield selections, no dress code, a cover cheap by SCBD standards, and a Resident Advisor listing that puts it on the map for touring DJs scouting the city ahead of a booking.

Is this a scene or just three good nights?

Three rooms don't make a scene by themselves, but the pattern is worth noting: all of Jakarta's genuinely house-and-techno-focused venues are recent, and none of them are pretending to be superclubs. Jakarta's loudest, biggest rooms, the ones with the international DJ residencies and bottle-service tables along SCBD, are still built for EDM and big-room sound. Vault, Le Cirque and Zodiac are doing something else: smaller capacities, sound-first design, programming built around house and techno specifically instead of as one night among many.

"Immersion over excess" is Le Cirque's own line, but it could describe the gap all three venues are trying to fill.
